Our Guide to car servicing

Are you a driver wondering about when to get your car serviced? If you are not used to regular car servicing, it can be hard to know when to get your vehicle serviced, how long it takes, and what it will do to benefit your car. At N2 Auto Care, we provide our customers with high-quality car servicing in Meath.

What is a car service?

A car service is essentially a check-up for your car. Our mechanic will check each car part to assess its performance. We want to ensure that your vehicle works to the best of its ability. We do this by checking your car parts, such as the engine belt, oil, brakes and filters, to ensure no wear and tear.
This check-up may result in you needing parts replaced. This will ensure that the performance of your car remains steady and ready for all journeys ahead.

How often should your car be serviced?

At N2 Auto Care, we recommend having a full service after 12 months or 12,000 miles, depending on whichever comes first for you. A yearly visit to us for car servicing is a good idea as it will prevent any unnecessary breakdowns or issues happening to your car and ensure that your car’s performance remains as good as possible.

How long does a car servicing service take?

A full car servicing should usually take about 3 hours to complete. These 3 hours will allow our team to check over each car part. This will enable us to ensure that your car parts work to the best of their abilities. In these 3 hours, we want to ensure that your car is entirely safe.

Is car servicing and an NCT different?

Yes, NCT and car servicing are two different services. An NCT focuses on the security of your car. A legal requirement is to have an NCT completed in your vehicle every two years. You can not drive your car if you have no valid NCT.
Car servicing helps to improve a car’s performance. It checks the wear and tear of the vehicle. Unlike the NCT, car servicing is not a legal requirement.
If you require a car servicing for your vehicle, contact N2 Auto Care today! We want to ensure that your car is safe and working to the best of its abilities.

What is Battery Impedance Testing and Why is it Important?

As one of Meath’s most established car garages, the question we have been asked a lot lately is what a battery impedance test is and why it’s important.

With the rise of fully electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, the battery has quickly become one of the most important parts of a vehicle. Therefore battery testing and battery maintenance are more important than ever.

Still, some of the tests a hybrid vehicle requires aren’t as well known as the servicing that diesel or petrol-powered car engines require. Therefore terms like battery Impedance testing still sound a little foreign when we discuss car maintenance. However, we’d argue that these terms are easy to understand and their importance is almost self-evident once their meanings are revealed.

What is Battery Impedance Testing?

To put it in the broadest strokes possible, a battery impedance test is a method of predicting future battery failure. While a car battery for a hybrid or an electric car is long-lasting and robust these batteries will eventually fail and need to be replaced. An unexpected battery failure can be incredible inconvenient especially if you use your vehicle for work. Therefore using a test to predict when a car battery is going to fail can help avoid any unscheduled vehicle downtime.

An impedance test is conducted by passing a current through the battery to measure the battery's internal impedance. This data is converted to a draft which allows our experts to make a loose prediction on when the battery is likely to fail.

Why is a Battery Impedance Test Important?

This test is vital for many reasons. As mentioned, it helps predict when the battery in a vehicle is likely to fail. Allowing the vehicle owner to work around this future issue. Also replacing a battery in a vehicle is expensive. With a rough timeline in place as to when the battery is likely to fail a vehicle owner can prepare for the expense of replacing the battery or begin seeking a new vehicle.

Do you still have questions on Battery Impedance Testing? Not sure if your vehicle requires an impedance test? Call our Meath Garage today. Our friendly and expert mechanics will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Servicing your car's air conditioning system

An oftentimes overlooked area of vehicle maintenance is the air conditioning system.

While checking tyre tread depth, changing a vehicle’s oil and making sure the engine is regularly serviced has become a ubiquitous ritual of car ownership, air conditioning system maintenance often seems to fall by the wayside.

However, regular air conditioning check-ups can ensure a comfortable drive but also help prevent humanity within the vehicle. Excessive vehicle humanity will inevitably lead to expensive repairs.
Air conditioning check-ups also ensures the compressor oil supply is operating effectively and helps save on lost refrigerant– lost refrigerant can lead to an excessive annual spend on fuel.

How do I know if my Air-Con needs to be serviced?

Like any component on a vehicle, an unusual or strange sound is often the first indicator that something is amiss.
We recommend, turning the car on and turning the air conditioning to its maximum setting. This test ensures that the air conditioning system is actually operating but it also makes any unusual sounds unmistakable.
When the air conditioner is fully on, air should be blowing out of the vents at high pressure and this air should be icy cold.
Issues like a strange sound, poor air pressure or the air not feeling as cold as it should be are likely indications that the air conditioning system needs to be serviced by an expert.

What does an air conditioning service include?

N2 Auto Care offers a range of air conditioning service packages. These packages can be fully customised to the individual needs of the vehicle. However, every air conditioning service will usually entail:

- A full recharge of the refrigerant
- A vacuum test, which checks and identifies any leaks within the system
- Refilling the system’s lubricant
- A comprehensive anti-bacterial clean
- Removal of all moisture within the system

How often should a car’s air conditioning system be serviced

It has been estimated that a vehicle’s air conditioning system will lose about 10% of refrigerant annually. With this in mind, it’s extremely important to have your air condition system serviced at least once a year.

If you have any more question on vehicle air conditioning servicing or you’re interested in inquiring about pricing, get in contact with our offices today or view our car air conditioning page.

When she contacted the main Opal Dealer and enquired about her annual car service she asked could she bring it to a garage of her choice, as she has always brought here previous cars to N2autocare. They looked at the contract and it did allow her bring it to a garage of her choice providing the garage used OE components and if this was the case it did not affect the manufactures warranty. We at N2Autocare only use OE approved oils, filtration and components which all traceable at out end. To the customers surprise on completion of this annual service we came in cheaper than the main Opel dealer. N2Autocare pride ourselves on the level of service we provide to all our customers in Ashbourne, Rathoath and surrounding areas.

A big thank you to Emma from all at N2Autocare!
